An Essential Reading Log for the Mindful Reader

An Essential Reading Log for the Mindful Reader

If you’re here, you likely understand the benefits of tracking your reading, and that’s why we’re happy to announce the return of a reader favorite to help you do just that. That’s right, the Book Riot Reading Log is back, and adjusted to be used any year or time period you want! The log that collects reading stats as you enter book details and keeps you in the know about your book spending habits has grown and evolved over the years, and this one’s more adjustable than ever.

In case you need a reminder or a bit of prompting to actually do the work of finding and using a great reading log, let’s talk about strengthening the muscle of mindful reading. If you didn’t grow up surrounded by shelves of books by authors from a wide variety of communities and backgrounds writing about diverse characters and places, it might not have occurred to you until later in life that entire communities and experiences are sent to the margins of our reading lives, if present at all. The absence of data makes the work of identifying reading gaps difficult, and that’s why tracking your reading habits through a reading log of some kind remains one of the best methods for staying accountable to goals as straightforward as the number of books you read or as meaningful as reading more books by and about the BIPOC community.

As Book Riot marks 15 years of pushing for books and a reading culture that better reflect the world we live in, we can’t think of a better way to celebrate than to offer our biggest supporters the best reading log for broadening those reading horizons. If you’re similarly tired of looking at homogenous lists of bestsellers and Goodreads’ users most popular books and want better for your own list of reads, this is the essential reading log you’ve been looking for.

The Book Riot Reading Log comes with the Reading Log, Stats, a Book Spending Log, and Instructions all separated out by tabs. Different from our previous reading logs, this spreadsheet is year agnostic, so you can start tracking whenever you want, make a copy for each year or specific time period, whatever! Once you copy the spreadsheet, it’s yours to adjust, customize, refine, or use as is since it’s quite robust. Many thanks to our members for being part of our community and supporting our work. Without further ado, here’s the best reading log for thoughtful readers!

P.S. The most important note found in the Instructions tab is that you’ll need to make a copy of the spreadsheet in order to modify it.
