If you’re into classic clothing, putting on a bold leather statement piece can be a risky proposition. But this fall, designers are offering outerwear and accessories applying the material to a variety of familiar shapes that might otherwise be cut from wool felt or gabardine. Take the stylish trench from Hermes’s final menswear collection under artistic director Veronique Nichanian. Rendered in a rich olive, it looks like modern armor. Then there’s Tod’s sunny yellow shirt jacket made from Pashmy suede, an ultralight version of the hide. With so many strong options, it’d be foolish not to try one or two as you update your wardrobe for the season.
