Eventually, he hit “rock bottom” and Dara, 33, briefly called off their romance “because she had to,” especially after costar Mia Calabrese convinced Dara to give KJ space so that he could focus on his own healing journey.
“Dara, I think, was gonna hang on, but that wouldn’t have been good for either of us,” KJ reflected. “I needed the time, because after the hospital, I went to recovery…and that’s when we broke up.”
But now that the costars are back together, KJ knows they made the right decision in temporarily taking time apart.
“Looking back, if me and Dara were dating when I was in recovery, it would have been a mess,” he confessed. “I would have been focused on saving the relationship rather than focusing on my health. Recovery changed my life.”
