Foo Fighters Pack a Punch For Your Favorite Toy Performance on Kimmel: Watch

Even after 30 years of getting it done, the Foo Fighters can still rock the house. That house is typically a stadium, although this week the rockers scaled down and got back to their roots for a four-night musical residency on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

On night one, it was a performance of “Window” from the rock act’s 12th and latest studio album, Your Favorite Toy. Then, on Tuesday night, an old favorite with “This Is A Call,” lifted from the Foos’ debut self-titled album from 1995.

For their third trick on the late-night show’s Halloween takeover week, another new number. Dave Grohl and Co. ripped through a performance of the title track from Your Favorite Toy, which unwrapped in April and debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Hard Rock Albums chart, the Foos’ eighth leader.

The Foos got down to business for the type of loud, old school, no-fuss expression of rock that the band was built on. And they did it in a studio with a capacity they outgrew back in the mid-‘90s. A serious win for any fan who scored a pass.

Your Favorite Toy was “the most fun we’ve had making a record in years,” Grohl told Classic Rock ahead of its release. The Rock Hall-inducted group approached it with “no rules, no pressure — just the joy of plugging in and seeing what happens.”

The Foos’ world tour has this year taken the Rock Hall-inductees through North America, across Europe, and next week kicks off in Australia and New Zealand.

In a chat with Kimmel which aired earlier in the week, Grohl recounted how he poached Taylor Hawkins, his late drummer and friend, from Alanis Morissette; praised the music talents of his daughter Violet; and talked-up the band’s headline spot at KROQ’s Almost Acoustic Christmas event, set for Dec. 12 at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles.

The first time the Foos played the radio station’s fest was 1995, on a bill with Morissette, Porno For Pyros, Sonic Youth, Presidents of The United States of America, Garbage, No Doubt and Radiohead. “Those were the days,” Grohl remarked. “That was such a great time for music, you know. The ‘90s…everyone was young and excited and inspired and shows like that brought everyone together. It was really like a community.” The Foos’ latest late-night spot had that community spirit.
