Why Stephen Colbert Says Late Show Cancellation “Saved” His Life

As for what fans can expect from his last show ever, Colbert teased his May 21 goodbye will be “something simple.”

Most importantly, he wants viewers to smile when they think back on his legacy within the late night landscape.

“I hope they laughed,” Colbert noted. “I hope they felt better at the end of the day. I mean, that’s it. We’re there. We’re the last thing you see. A lot of things happen in a day, but we bat last, and so we get the last take that people hear before they go to bed, and I hope it made their day better.”

Don’t miss the last episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Thursday, May 21, at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.
