The story takes place in Panem 24 years before The Hunger Games, beginning on the morning of the Second Quarter Quell. It is the 50th Hunger Games, wherein Haymitch Abernathy is a player.

Among the cast of the latest adaptation of Suzanne Collins’s mega-bestselling YA series are Joseph Zada as Haymitch, Elle Fanning as Effie Trinket, Mckenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, Ralph Fiennes as President Snow, and Lenore Dove Baird as Whitney Peak. Glenn Close will play the role of Drusilla Sickle.
