Is Ishq Vishk Rebound a Remake or Sequel?

The highly anticipated film Ishq Vishk Rebound is gearing up to hit theaters soon, creating buzz about its connection to the original Ishq Vishk. Directed by Nipun Dharmadhikari and featuring Rohit Saraf, Pashmina Roshan, Jibraan Khan, and Naila Grewal, the film promises a fresh take on the classic romance. However, audiences are wondering whether it is a remake or a sequel.

Rohit Saraf has an update on Ishq Vishk Rebound plot

Many fans are curious whether this upcoming project is a sequel or remake of the original Ishq Vishk, which featured Shahid Kapoor and Amrita Rao. Since the film shares the same title and features renditions of some songs from the original, cinephiles have been wondering about this since the trailer release.

Actor Rohit Saraf, who will be playing the lead role in Ishq Vishk Rebound, previously clarified the nature of the film. He stated that the upcoming film is neither a sequel nor a remake of the Shahid Kapoor-starrer movie. Saraf emphasized, “It’s not a remake or sequel of Ishq Vishk. The thing common between the two films is that they belong to the same franchise. But it’s a new story altogether, a love story about Gen Z.”

The original Ishq Vishk, directed by Ken Ghosh, debuted in 2003 and quickly became a hit. It introduced audiences to Shahid Kapoor, alongside Amrita Rao and Shenaz Treasurywala. This romantic comedy struck a chord with many and is remembered fondly to this day.

Ishq Vishk Rebound merely carries the name and promises a brand new love story filled with drama, romance, heartbreaks, and rebound. As Naila Grewal described, “Everyone must realize that it is not a sequel or a remake. We are giving a fresh take on the idea of ishq that we see in today’s day and age. So it is more relevant to Gen-Z.”

Ishq Vishk Rebound releases in theatres on June 21, 2024
