88 Films Announces August 2024 Slate of Cult Classics

88 Films has revealed its August 2024 slate of physical releases for cult classics and hidden gems in genre cinema.

The British distributor has eight releases of seven movies, from martial arts to giallo.

The Bodyguard from Beijing 4K/ Blu-ray: August 26, 2024

A corrupt businessman commits a murder and the only witness is the girlfriend of another businessman with close connections to the Chinese government, so a bodyguard from Beijing is dispatched to help two Hong Kong cops protect the witness. Complications arise when the bodyguard and the witness must confront their deep feelings for one another.

Orgasmo: August 26, 2024

More giallo goodness from the master of the genre, Umberto Lenzi. This cinematic gem follows a wealthy widow who moves to a luxurious home in Italy, only to find herself the target of a mysterious but handsome stranger and his equally stunning step-sibling, so cue questionable debauchery, dangerous drugs and very saucy sex. Starring Hollywood hottie Carroll Baker this psychological thriller takes the genre into truly dark, surreal places whilst delivering a pitch perfect, claustrophobic atmosphere.

Legacy of Rage: August 12, 2024

Ronny Yu (The Bride with the White Hair) is doing what he does best here, delivering a breath-taking, action-packed, fist-flying tale of vengeance which stars Brandon Lee. Hardworking Brandon Ma (Lee) is loving life with his girlfriend May (Regina Kent) but his drug dealing best friend Michael (Michael Wong) has sights on May and sets Brandon up for murder. Soon Brandon is on the hunt to save his girl and exact brutal revenge in this stylish flick which is packed with stunning fight choreography and cool dialogue.

Island of Terror: August 26, 2024

Horror is unleashed on an isolated island community when the inhabitants find themselves at the mercy of tentacled creatures that can liquefy human tissue and bone. Stanley, a pathologist, and Dr. David West attempt to get to the bottom of the mystery and discover that a scientific team on the island, now dead, may have been responsible for the ‘Sillicates’ which carve a deadly trail across the island. Directed by Terrence Fisher (Curse of the Werewolf, Dracula) and starring Hammer stalwart Peter Cushing, this monstrous island-style feature, follows in the footsteps of Jules Verne, and H.G. Wells providing a satisfyingly entertaining tale of horror and medical experiments gone array.

Crawlspace: August 12, 2024

When a down-on-his-luck plumber, finds himself trapped beneath the crawlspace of a remote house, where a ruthless band of poachers keep their illegal stash of weapons, he is forced to do battle, relying on his wits and skills to try and escape alive. This tense and claustrophobic edge-of-your-seat thriller from L. Gustavo Cooper and starring Henry Thomas, Elliott from E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, will keep you gripped from the beginning to the shocking climax.

The Blood Beast Terror: August 12, 2024

A series of blood-thirsty murders is investigated by Inspector Quennell and Sgt. Allan of Scotland Yard. Directed by Peter Sasdy (Taste the Blood of Dracula, Countess Dracula, Hands of the Ripper) and based on the successful BBC science fiction TV show of the same name, this Tigon horror flick oozes with menace, tapping into our fears about environmental destruction and isolated communities.
