Will There Be a The Tattooist of Auschwitz Season 2 Release Date & Is It Coming Out?

Based on the namesake 2018 novel Heather Morris, The Tattooist of Auschwitz is a historical drama story that tells the true story of Lali Sokolov, a Slovakian Jewish man. After being sent to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp in 1942, he is tasked by SS officers to mark the arms of other captives with identification numbers. The series premiered in the US on Peacock and in the UK on Sky Atlantic on May 2, 2024. If you want to know whether there will be a second season of The Tattooist of Auschwitz, this is what we have learned.

Here’s all we know about The Tattooist of Auschwitz Season 2 and whether or not it’s coming out.

Is there The Tattooist of Auschwitz Season 2 release date?

There is no The Tattooist of Auschwitz Season 2 release date as the show was created as a limited series.

Various outlets list The Tattooist of Auschwitz as a limited series, so a sophomore season is unlikely to happen. In six episodes, it tells the story of Lali Sokolov, his time at the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp, and his love for his future wife through the perspective of an older Lali.

The original book by Morris does have sequels. However, they focus on other individuals than Lali. For instance, Cilka’s Journey (The Tattooist of Auschwitz #2) is about Cilka Klein, an 18-year-old former captive at Auschwitz-Birkenau. Following its liberation, the Soviets accused Cilka of helping the Nazis and sent her to the Vorkuta Gulag in Siberia.

Meanwhile, the third book, Three Sisters, revolves around Cibi, Magda, and Livid, who also ended up at Auschwitz-Birkenau. These are important stories and perhaps one day will receive cinematic or TV adaptations. However, The Tattooist of Auschwitz is unequivocally about Lali and will likely conclude after telling his story.

The cast of The Tattooist of Auschwitz includes Harvey Keitel as Lali Sokolov and Jonah Hauer-King as young Lali Sokolov. The series also features Anna Próchniak as Gita, Jonas Nay as Stefan Baretzki, and Melanie Lynskey as Heather Morris.

Why The Tattooist of Auschwitz Season 2 might not be happening

The Tattooist of Auschwitz Season 2 probably isn’t coming out because, as mentioned above, the series creators developed it as a limited series.

ComingSoon will provide an update if the circumstances change, and Peacock announces the sophomore season of the Holocaust drama series.

The official synopsis for The Tattooist of Auschwitz reads:

“The powerful real-life story of Lali Sokolov, a Jewish prisoner who was tasked with tattooing ID numbers on prisoners’ arms in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp during World War II.”
