Drake’s video for “Way 2 Sexy” leans in on parody.

The first official video from Drake’s new album Certified Lover Boy is here, and unsurprisingly it’s for “Way 2 Sexy,” the Future and Young Thug-assisted track that has the most club banger energy on the album. The song is already garnering mixed reactions, with some saluting it for being tongue-in-cheek, while for others it’s a cringey swing-and-a-miss.

The video should surely stoke the conversation. Drake, never one to take himself too seriously in his music videos, of course fully leans into the inherent ridiculousness of making a visual for a song that samples and interpolates Right Said Fred. The video features the trio riffing on all types of sex symbol tropes and references, from Drake pumping iron in an ‘80s-style workout video, to appearing as the swashbuckling lead in a romance paperback cover and even donning a Prince getup alongside Future. Love it or hate it, everyone, especially Future, is clearly having a lot of fun committing to the bit.

But the most talked about scene will undoubtedly be when the guys don all-white fits to recreate the seminal Backstreet Boys look and dance moves from their classic video for “I Want It That Way,” with a setting that also evokes Boyz II Men’s video of equally classic stature, “Water Runs Dry.” And if that wasn’t ridiculous enough, they’re randomly joined by none other than one-time Raptor Kawhi Leonard, who fully joins in before having a meta moment of self-realization and snapping out of it.
