Chris Young Calls 911 in Romantic Slow Jam, ‘Rescue Me’

Chris Young finds himself in a romantic emergency in a just-released track, sharing an R&B-laced power ballad titled “Rescue Me.”

A candlelit slow jam that comes off like a country music 911 call, the song was revealed as a piece of Young’s upcoming Famous Friends album, arriving as another make-out anthem from the guy behind “Gettin’ You Home (the Black Dress Song).”

Co-written by Young with Josh Hoge, Mark Holman, Matthew McGinn and Christian Davis Stalnecker, the song is one of 13 tracks Young had a hand in writing on the new record, and it comes with a clever premise. Young compares himself to a superhero throughout the steamy track, but admits that being left in the dark about his love interest’s feelings is something like kryptonite. With electronic beats, clean guitars and a simmering vocal, the Tennessee native croons for some saving grace, hoping the story ends with a happily ever after.

“I think ‘Rescue Me’ is such a cool twist on the typical love song concept,” Young explains. “People were already falling in love with it just based off short social teases. It’s something special and I’m proud to have helped write it and produce it alongside Mark Holman.”

“But tell me, who is gonna rescue me? / ‘Cause it sure feels like kryptonite / How you got me on one knee / With my hand out beggin’ for mercy / What’s a happy ending if I can’t get the girl? / What’s it matter if I save the world? / If you don’t promise me / Before you take this ring / And rescue me,” Young sings.

Chris Young first teased the track on Instagram, and recently announced the plans for his Famous Friends anthem. Marking his eighth studio set, the project will arrive August 6 and features collaborations with Lauren AlainaMitchell Tenpenny and Kane Brown, who appears on the current Top 5 radio hit, “Famous Friends.” Young and Brown closed out the 2021 CMT Music Awards with a high-energy performance of the hit on Wednesday night (June 9).
