Interview with Emily Daccarett

Where was the first place you ever performed?

The first time I performed my own songs was for my fashion gallery show in  DTLA in 2018. It was the first time for most people who followed my fashion brand to find out that I was the one who wrote and sang the songs I used for my fashion  campaigns.

What was the song you opened up with?

I opened up with Viens a Moi. This was the first song I wrote that was not meant  for any of my collections. I wanted to try to write a pop song and test out if this  was something I really wanted to do and just how much. I thought I had to choose  between being a fashion designer or a performer. I was also scared I would push  away my audience who knew me for my designs, if I suddenly started to promote  myself as a singer. Ultimately, the call to music was too strong to keep  suppressing that desire and now I’m both. I’m really happy now!

Did you deal with any nerves?

Yes! So many, I was sweating like crazy. I had a few sips from my mom’s wine  glass to calm my nerves.

Is there any funny story that you can recall about that performance?

We had an open bar at that event and a few people got carried away. So we  switched the song order on the fly to calm them down before getting back to the  more rock songs we were doing.

Any mistakes made that you learned from as well?

Looking back, I was very stiff but I’ve learned to loosen up and just have fun on stage since then.

Do you have any upcoming performances? Virtual or Live?

I don’t have anything scheduled right now, but I’m planning on doing some live gigs in  LA this summer.

What is a comforting thing you think other artists should know that will get better  as they hone their craft?

Your connection to the stage will get better the more you perform. Once I realized how special it is that no two performances can ever be the same, it helped me  treasure and crave the stage.

Thank you for talking with us! It’s always interesting to talk about the beginning  years of an artist. Anything else you want to let fans know about that is coming  up for you?

I have a music video that will be dropping soon for Fading Memories! We are  working on some fun videos and shoots that will further the story of my album, Yours Always, which is also dropping this summer! I’m so excited to have it out  finally!!
