Idris Elba Shows Off His Rapping Skills By Dropping A Few Bars In A New Video

Roommates, outside of being a talented actor, Idris Elba is also known to get busy on the mic and flex his rapping skills. In a newly released video, Idris treated fans to a few bars of a freestyle for an uplifting song called “Gospel 21.”

Idris Elba is ushering 2021 away from a movie set and instead inside the recording booth. He just released the official music video for his song “Gospel 21,” which was written on New Year’s Eve.

In the song, Idris raps about his philosophy for 2021—while carefully emphasizing the importance of perseverance, being bold, and moving forward after leaving behind the terrible year that was 2020. “Forget all the maybes, bring on the ‘might as wells,’” he spits.

The video was directed by Idris himself and features him on a terrace, as images from the last year are edited in, including clips of the global pandemic, protests against police brutality, and more.

As we previously reported, after contracted COVID-19 himself, he suggested that everyone should quarantine at least one week every year to remember the devastating impact of the virus. “I think that the world should take a week of quarantine every year just to remember this time. Remember each other. I really do,” Idris said.

“It’s been about six weeks from the beginning to this point right now for us, where it’s essentially our lives turned around,” he said. “Definitely scary and unsettling and nervous. And I think that’s been like a real collected world experience. You know, everyone’s sort of feeling the way we have been feeling, but it has definitely been sort of just a complete upheaval.”
