Jake Owen Makes Acting Debut In New Film, ’Our Friend’

Jake Owen is dipping his toes into the acting world in the new movie, Our Friend, starring Casey Affleck, Dakota Johnson, and Jason Segel. According to IMDB, Owen plays a character named Aaron in the “inspiring and extraordinary” true story. Owen recently shared a one-minute clip of his part, during which his character is seen at a dinner party chatting with characters Nicole (Johnson), Matt (Affleck) and others about their shared friend Dane (Segel). The singer seems to be a natural in the clip, but he says shooting the movie alongside such big names was slightly intimidating.

“I’ve never been in a ‘movie’ before so I won’t lie… sitting down in front of Dakota Johnson, Jason Segel, and Casey Affleck and acting like I knew what I was doing, was a bit of a challenge,” he shared in the post. “I’ve always loved a good challenge.”

Along with the clip, Owen also added a short synopsis of the film, writing that the movie “tells the inspiring and extraordinary true story of the Teague family—journalist Matt (Casey Affleck), his vibrant wife Nicole (Dakota Johnson) and their two young daughters—and how their lives are upended by Nicole’s heartbreaking diagnosis of terminal cancer. As Matt’s responsibilities as caretaker and parent become increasingly overwhelming, the couple’s best friend Dane Faucheux (Jason Segel) offers to come and help out. As Dane puts his life on hold to stay with his friends, the impact of this life altering decision proves greater and more profound than anyone could have imagined.”

The film will be available in theaters and on streaming services on January 22nd.
