Rascal Flatts Update Solo Project Plans After Band’s Farewell

With 2020 in the rearview, country trio Rascal Flatts are officially winding their record-setting career down. So what comes next?

Before the Covid-19 pandemic Gary LeVox, Jay Demarcus and Joe Don Rooney planned to make all of 2020 a triumphant farewell tour — but that obviously didn’t happen. Instead they said goodbye with the album Twenty Years of Rascal Flatts: The Greatest Hits and the poignant single, “How They Remember You,” expressing regret that they didn’t get to perform for fans one last time. But even though the band might be “over,” they’re not really “retiring.”

Each member recently spoke with Rascal Flatts’ record label about what comes next, and their plans reflect what each brought to the hit making group in the first place.

“Well, I think there’s no doubt that we’ll all be doing some type of something in music because we all just … that’s our passion, it’s what we love,” Rooney said. “For me I’m just continuing songwriting and that journey, which is just my favorite thing to do.”

“I opened a Christian record label two years ago called Red Street Records, and so, I’m really devoting a lot of time to that,” DeMarcus agreed, nodding toward the venture that has already launched artists like Jason Crabb.

And meanwhile, LeVox has revealed that he’s going solo — adding a splash of his signature sense of humor to the news. “I’m actually working on a solo record right now … and goat yoga,” he said. “It’s weird but there’s nothing to do and I own that farm, so I’m raising goats and we’ve got yoga goin’ on.”

There’s not much info out there about LeVox’s upcoming solo project, but the high-flying singer did release a moving Christmas collab with composer Stephan Moccio this year which may provide some insight. Titled “Christmas Will Be Different This Year” and filled with faithful passion, it highlights LeVox’s breathtaking vocal presence over simple piano accompaniment. Rascal Flatts’ final single, “How They Remember You,” is out now and has risen into the Top 20 of Billboard’s Country Airplay radio chart.
