Old Dominion’s Matthew Ramsey Offers New Year’s Eve Perspective on 2020

As the countdown closes in on 2020 and the start of 2021 nears, Matthew Ramsey is reflecting on his gratitude toward the hardships this year has thrown at the world.

The Old Dominion front man shared his thoughts about the past 12 months in a poignant social media message sent out to fans on the morning of New Year’s Eve (December 31). While he expressed a slight resentment for the pain 2020 has caused so many, he made the most of what he could find throughout the time.

“This New Year’s Eve, lots of words must come to mind for us all. I bet they are mostly negative. At least the first words that pop into my mind are. It takes some real conscious effort to wade through the muck of stress, sorrow, fear, loss and uncertainty with which 2020 has filled my heart and brain. It’s important, tough as it may be, to seek out the silver linings,” Ramsey optimistically wrote in the post.

He went on to create a scenario, in which he envisioned what saying goodbye to 2020 would look like as he welcomes the New Year ahead.

“I have this vision of 2020 physically walking out of the door, and just before it closes I feel compelled to say, “Hey.” 2020 looks over its shoulder, hand still on the doorknob. We are both uncertain of what I’m going to say. The countdown has started. 10..9.. and I feel the weight of all the pain this year brought,” he continues, recounting in this imaginative situation that he says goodbye with purpose before greeting 2021 gladly with a drink.

While it has been a tough year on everyone in the music industry, Old Dominion has still continued to triumph. The band was most recently nominated for two GRAMMY Awards in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance and Best Country Song categories.

The winners for those awards will be announced during the 2021 GRAMMY Awards telecast on CBS. They are scheduled to air on Sunday, January 31, at 8 p.m. EST.
