Shakira Brings Her Biggest Hits to Free Rio de Janeiro Show

On May 3, Shakira performed a massive free show at Rio de Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach, with cameos from a few special guests. According to Mayor of Rio de Janeiro Eduardo Cavaliere, the set drew an estimated crowd of two million people. Check out footage from the evening below.

The nearly three-hour setlist included a career-spanning collection of Shakira’s longtime hits: “Hips Don’t Lie,” “La Tortura,” “Whenever, Wherever,” and “She Wolf,” plus her viral 2023 track with Bizarrap, “BZRP Music Sessions #53/66.” She was also joined onstage by local legends Caetano Veloso, a tropicália pioneer, and his sister Maria Bethânia, one of the best-selling artists in Brazilian history. Anitta stopped by too, to perform her and Shakira’s new song, “Choka Choka,” which appears on the Brazilian star’s last album, Equilibrivm.

The gig was part of Shakira’s ongoing world tour in support of her 2024 album, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran, her first all-Spanish-language project in 19 years. It was also the most recent edition of Rio de Janeiro’s ever-expanding Todo Mundo no Rio concert series. Lady Gaga brought free shows to the waterfront as part of the festival in 2025, and Madonna did the same in 2024, performing for the largest live crowd of her career at the conclusion of her Celebration Tour.

During Shakira’s set, she took plenty of opportunities to profess her love for the country and city, spelling out “I love you, Brazil” in Portuguese in skywriting and speaking about her personal connection to Rio. “I arrived here when I was 18 years old, dreaming about singing for you,” Shakira told her audience after coming on stage, per the Associated Press. “And now look at this. Life is magical.”
