While we think of Jeep as a maker of rugged SUVs with off-road ability at its core, the Wagoneer S is a shift for the brand as it enters the electric era. The Wagoneer S is Jeep’s first full-sized electric SUV and comes armed with a bevy of features to compete with its rivals. Speaking of which, there is no shortage of capable SUVs in the all-electric space but the Wagoneer S tried to be different from the crowd. However, styling-wise it is sleek and surely the most radical Jeep ever. It is more compact than a Grand Cherokee while the 7-slot grille undergoes a big transformation since it does not feature any intakes but gets lighting elements. The enclosed grille now illuminates the line of sight when approaching the vehicle.
The rest of the design is sleeker with a slightly sloping grille too. The Jeep Wagoneer S Launch Edition meanwhile gets black accents along with 20-inch Gloss Black wheels, as well as Gloss Black and dark neutral grey exterior elements throughout. Inside, is a screen fest with the dashboard being festooned with numerous screens including one for the passenger. Some other details include cross-metal deco trim applique, wine red-stitched steering wheel with a flat-bottom design, and new Cabo vinyl anti-microbial surface coating, making it easier to keep the vehicle clean. Also, for the Jeep brand, this is their first car with electronic door releases.
The Launch Edition also gets customizable LED lighting with daytime/nighttime settings, plus active, direct ambient lighting with up to 64 selectable colors along with a dual-pane panoramic sunroof. Jeep says that it is the only BEV that comes with standard heated and exclusive standard ventilated rear seats. Finally, there is also a custom McIntosh 19-speaker audio system. Jeep has also added some sustainability with non-leather synthetic on some surfaces. The standard 12.3-inch center display features the latest infotainment system and gets a crisper display.
The Jeep Wagoneer S carries an efficient 400-volt, 100-kilowatt-hour battery pack that allows owners to charge the vehicle Charing times go from 20% to 80% in 23 minutes (with a DC fast charger) and the Launch Edition includes a 48-amp Level 2 home charger too. However, for a Jeep, it remains to be seen how good it is off-road while it does get the Selec-Terrain traction management system. That said, this is a Jeep for the road and embraces the electric era convincingly while it is priced at $71,995. As mentioned earlier, this segment already has the likes of the Tesla Model Y, Genesis GV70 plus the Cadillac Lyriq.
