Pidgie Releases New Album

Just Breathe is a rock-n-roll romp that seeks to inspire and empower you! The new album from Singer/songwriter Pidgie is a tour-de-force of creative perseverance and personal triumph. Pidgie is a disability rights activist who was born with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). Pidgie was mentored by her older sister (who also had SMA) on how to advocate for herself. Making Just Breathe was always in the cards for Pidgie since making music has always been a part of her life. Pidgie has always sung and found solace in creative expression, something she’s devoted her life to. The power of creativity and empowerment are an unshakable aspect of Pidgie and of Just Breathe. Through multiple rock anthems about relationships and the woes of love Pidgie makes her mark on the music scene. Thunderous and feisty guitars are at the forefront of her melodies creating an alluring and energizing atmosphere that casts a spell on you.

From opening track “Accessory” to closing track “What A Price To Pay,“ Just Breathe takes you on a journey you’ll never forget. One of my favorite tracks on the album is “All Revved Up.” Pidgie sets the scene when she starts the track off with fiery, “Yeah baby.” Strong rock-n-roll guitars come in to set the pace and tone. Pidgie’s distinct vocals and clever lyrics are highlighted by the high energy of the guitars and heartbeat-like drums. The lyrics embody what the title suggests; one of my favorite lyrics is, “I remember getting out of your car after a 20 mile kiss.” Between the singing guitars and Pidgie’s provocative lyrics “All Revved Up” will put you in an upbeat and empowered mood instantly. Just Breathe concludes with powerful anthem “What A Price To Pay,” a track that features Pidgie reflecting on a relationship that fell apart and how that was a good thing, in retrospect. “What A price To Pay” touches on the most empowering realization of all, that you can have everything in the world but if you don’t know yourself, you don’t have anything.

While there is no shortage of rock anthems on Just Breathe Pidgie explores other genres like Gospel Blues and 80’s pop. Pidgie’s powerful cover of Nina Simone’s “I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free” is evocative and soulful. Pidgie’s vocals are full of depth and feeling that reach straight for your soul. Pidgie opens the track with haunting vocals against the distinct backdrop of the pipe organ. Pidgie and her band pick up the pace making for an uplifting and joyous track. One of the best tracks on the album is “Hell Again,” Pidgie masterfully captures the difficulties of trusting someone again after getting hurt. Set against 80’s synthesizers Pidgie weighs the pros and cons of loving someone new. “Hell Again” is extremely relatable and honest as Pidgie contemplates if this new interest is worth risking her heart again. With a catchy melody that supports the reflective nature of the song, “Hell Again” is a knockout.

Every track on Just Breathe is impeccably produced. Every song on the album is full of unique details that speak to Pidgie’s artistry. Whether its delicious backing vocals, blazing electric guitars, or intoxicating keys, Just Breathe is extremely dynamic album. The production is crisp and lively highlighting the depth of Pidgie’s lyrics. The most exciting aspect of Just Breathe is how much of Pidgie’s spirit can be felt in it. Pidgie’s artistry is noticeable and notable the more you listen. Her sense of self-love and empowerment is clear, her feisty attitude adds more personality to each song, and ultimately makes you feel better about life in general.

Just Breathe is a powerful album that encourages you to embrace your life and your own power. Pidgie’s creativity is contagious, I found myself growing more and more inspired with every track. There is an undeniable joy that emanates from Just Breathe. Pidgie continues to push boundaries and redefine representation of people with disabilities when she’s not making music and with her music. Don’t miss Just Breathe, out now!
