Lee Greenwood and Paula Dean to Host Post-Christmas ‘Hero’ Telethon

“God Bless the U.S.A.” singer Lee Greenwood will team up with chef and TV personality Paula Deen for a patriotic post-Christmas telethon, raising money to house 100 military families.

They’ve been tapped to co-host the Helping A Hero Telethon, which will build homes for wounded veterans around the nation.

One of the largest home-building organizations in the nation, Helping A Hero is designed to stand behind some of our most severely wounded veterans. With recipients in 23 states, the vets chosen for new homes all suffer from permanent injuries which have left them paraplegic, quadriplegic, as amputees or with other severe limitations, and the organization has already given out 150 homes. But with Greenwood and Deen’s help, they aim to build 100 more.

Set to premiere on Monday (December 27) at 8 PM ET / 7 PM CT on RFD-TV, The Cowboy Channel and One America Network, the Helping A Hero Telethon will serve as a challenge to viewers — and one with a musical foundation.

Performing during the one-hour fundraiser are Crystal Gayle, Debby Boone, The Oak Ridge Boys, The Frontmen, John Conlee, The Gatlin Brothers, Home Free and Darryl Worley, with a big finale featuring Sam Moore and T. Graham Brown with special guests Janie Fricke, Lee Brice, Michael Ray, Tim Rushlow and Worley. The ultimate goal will be to raise awareness and fund the remaining 75 percent of building those 100 new homes, after Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris chipped in the first 25.

No stranger to the American military family, Greenwood says everyone involved joined up at the drop of a hat.

“I am thankful for the friendships that I have nurtured over the years with so many fellow artists that when I simply asked for their help in performing for this telethon event, so many quickly agreed,” he says. “This program is going to be something fans of country music will enjoy and I am hopeful that we raise lots of money to help fund these homes for our veterans.”

The Helping A Hero Telethon will premiere December 27 at 8 PM ET / 7 PM CT on RFD-TV, The Cowboy Channel and One America Network, and it will also re-air on Heartland and The Family Channel  January 1.
