Hi Kendra! Thank you for speaking with me today!
You just released your album ‘of Consideration’! Congrats! Will you tell us a bit about it?
Thank you! I am so thrilled about this album. It was a dream to create, and I’d say, my creative vision for the project was completely honored, which is very cool. It was honestly a very spiritual experience to manifest the songs, to find my band, to collaborate with a producer who gets me at a famous studio I love. I know I love recording a whole bunch, because the day we finished, I was ready to get back out there and write more to record.
How exciting is it to see your music gaining momentum like this?
It is so exciting to have more and more people listening to my music. I find that the experiences that I have been through and the wisdom that I have learned through them shows in my songwriting and even in my performance. Something I really focus on is connecting to people’s hearts and minds, so they can truly hear the message they are meant to hear. Not that I am a saint, yet there is always something to learn from one another, and art is a great teacher.
Not only did you just release this album, you also are about to release another EP right?
I know it’s totally absurd to turn around and release more music 2 months later, but these songs are so great, I really wanted to get them out for my audience for summertime!
It’s going to be such a great summer season this year, and there are a few celebration tracks on “of Summer”. That’s the title of the EP.
So incredible! Will you tell us more about the inspiration behind the new project?
Yeah! The inspiration is feel-good blues inspired pop rock. Since the project was recorded in Nashville, a lot of the influences for the EP stem from traditional folk and country artists. It’s a solid bridge for me to explore a more mainstream side of my artistry.
What was the coolest part of that creative process/ what was the process like?
I think the most unique part of the songwriting process for “of Summer” is the fact that we wrote all 4 songs remotely on facetime. It was also my first time co-writing songs. I enjoyed the process, and I look forward to continuing to collab more and more with other songwriters, including more with my Nashville crew at Ten7Teen Studios and the songwriters on this album I wrote with: Justine Blazer, Mark Roma, Corey Lee Barker, and Randy Barnette.
It is amazing that you are stepping into so many styles! Do you feel like one style or project over the other is more true to Kendra & the Bunnies?
Gosh, thank you. Yeah, that’s such an interesting question. Yes and no. I feel like my style and sound is bound to develop and grow over time, yet at the root of Kendra & the Bunnies, there will always be my very deep respect for rock ‘n roll history, hip hop, spoken word, top 40, jam bands, and chill edm. Wow, that really covers all the bases.
I’ll just say at the core of my music, there will always be a healing rock ‘n roll sparkle.
Anything else coming up you want to point people towards?
