Roommates, LeBron James has always been extremely vocal when it comes to speaking up for the rights of Black people and also police brutality—but apparently, Donald Trump wishes he would just stick to basketball. Since he’s still banned from all social media, Donald Trump recently released a statement slamming LeBron James for his “racist rants.”
Trump’s statement calling out LeBron James, read:
“LeBron James should focus on basketball rather than presiding over the destruction of the NBA, which has just recorded the lowest television RATINGS, by far, in the long and distinguished history of the League. His RACIST rants are divisive, nasty, insulting, and demeaning. He may be a great basketball player, but he is doing nothing to bring our Country together!”
Trump was referring to a post made (and eventually deleted) by LeBron James regarding officer Nicholas Reardon, who fatally shot Ma’Khia Bryant four times in the chest earlier this week. LeBron wrote, “YOU’RE NEXT #ACCOUNTABILITY” along with a photo of Reardon.
After he received backlash from several Republicans he deleted the tweet and instead posted more of his thoughts about police accountability.
“I’m so damn tired of seeing Black people killed by police. I took the tweet down because it’s being used to create more hate—This isn’t about one officer. It’s about the entire system and they always use our words to create more racism. I am so desperate for more ACCOUNTABILITY,” he wrote.
