Saweetie Recalls Having PTSD After Her 2018 Hot 97 Interview & Talks About How Her Career Has Grown Since

There is no doubt that Saweetie does not have a hard time when it comes to capturing the attention of her audience. Whether it’s her fashionable looks, her unique food combinations, or her latest singles, the leader of the Icy Gang has built a huge fan base over the years. However, things were not always easy, there were a few bumps in the road before she arrived at where she is today.

In the latest issue of Cosmopolitan, Saweetie reflects on the struggles she faced earlier on in her career, and how she was able to work on her craft and develop into the artist we know her to be today.

In the interview, one of the moments she reflected on was her 2018 interview with Hot 97’s Ebro Darden, Peter Rosenburg, and Laura Styles. She said, “It was a really dark point in my life. I went from being so loved so quickly because of ‘Icy Grl’ to, on my first promo run, well, you saw the interview. The script flipped really quick, like night and day. I was like, Wait…” I had PTSD from that.”

Nonetheless, Saweetie says she’s appreciative of her struggles because they have helped to shape the career she has today and wishes more people could see her growth.

“I’m really grateful for my start because the mistakes, the struggle, the grind—it allows me to appreciate the rewards that come now because I know what it feels like to sleep in motels, to drive and do promo, to be stressed out.”

Saweetie has also acknowledged that some people have to work harder than others when it comes to achieving success in their field, as she continued to speak about all of the hard work she has put in thus far. “Some of us have it naturally. And some of us don’t—like me,” she said. “And that’s okay because I know that as long as I work hard, I’ll become one of the best.”
