Jordan Davis Fights Off Loneliness in New Track, ‘Need to Not’

Jordan Davis fights a moment of romantic weakness in the emotional new track, “Need to Not,” wrestling with the loneliness of a broken heart.

Written by the “Slow Dance In a Parking Lot” hit maker with his brother, Jacob Davis, Josh Jenkins and Matt Jenkins, the grooving track captures a familiar internal argument. Sometimes after a breakup, your heart tells you to just go and get back together, that everything will work out and this whole thing was just a big misunderstanding — and that’s the dangerous place Davis is coming from.

Pounding drums supply the forward energy to push him back toward his ex’s house. An easy Louisiana vocal matches how simple it would be to open that door and try again. But there’s something holding him back.

“’Need To Not’ is about that little voice in your head screaming, ‘You need to not do this, man,’” Jordan Davis explains. “The song makes me think how I wish I would have listened to that voice a little more than I did in my past.”

“I should stop right now and go back home / Turn on that TV, stare at the wall and just sleep alone / Never turn down your block / I know I need to not / Get too close ’cause you know that I’ll cross that line / You say you miss me, your kiss hits me one more time / Don’t wanna give us one more shot / I know I need to not,” goes the cautionary tale of a chorus.

Davis’ current single, “Almost Maybes,” is out now and rising up the country radio charts, with a music video starring actress and former Bachelorette, Hannah Brown. His self-titled EP was released in May of 2020.
