With Women’s History Month officially underway, that means International Women’s Day is just around the corner. And this year, Gwen Stefani, Kelsea Ballerini and more are taking the mic.
Joined by hip-hop superstar Cardi B, the country hit makers are taking part in a female-focused special celebrating the achievements of women, called iHeartRadio Presents SeeHer Hear Her: Celebrating Women in Music. It’s a one-hour event diving deep into the challenges facing female artists everywhere, and they way they’ve overcome them, celebrating International Women’s Day on March 8.
Streaming on iHeartRadio’s YouTube and Facebook pages March 8 at 8 p.m. ET, the special is described as a “celebration placing gender equality center stage.” The show will find its three hosts getting real about their experience as women in leading cultural roles, shining a light on not just the problems but also the progress, and will hopefully continue to help inspire future generations of girls as they chase their dreams. The event will also feature interviews and music from other female artists, and will be available on demand through March 14.
“iHeartMedia is excited to partner with SeeHer and their SeeHer Hear Her initiative to inspire us all with the stories of amazing women breaking new ground in Hip Hop, Pop and Country music,” says Gayle Troberman, executive vice president and chief marketing officer for iHeartMedia. “This International Women’s Day it’s important that we are all reminded of what equality can sound like, as we come together to celebrate, inspire and support one another.”
The initiative will also feature more than a week of lead-in events on iHeartMedia radio stations, spotlighting female artists on 600 stations around the country as the quest for gender equality continues.
“We launched #SeeHer Hear Her as part of the SeeHer movement in 2019 to eliminate gender bias in the music industry and increase the percent of women in front of and behind the mic,” adds SeeHer president Nadine Karp McHugh. “We are making progress, but there is a long way to go. We are delighted to bring this important initiative to scale with iHeart surrounding International Women’s Day. Together we See Her.”
Founded in 1911, International Women’s Day is a global holiday celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day normally features rallies and marches all around the world, and this year’s theme is “Choose to Challenge.”
