Rosalía and Rauw Alejandro Set the Record Straight About Their Storybook Engagement

The ‘first couple’ of Spanish-language music took the GQ Couples Quiz, dishing on their first kiss, their go-to karaoke songs, and his proposal snafu.

Rosalía and Rauw Alejandro might just be the preeminent couple in Spanish-language music. The pair dated covertly for more than a year, before becoming “instagram official” in September 2021. In addition to being a great coup as a power couple, the pair are also a perfect fit as musical collaborators–they released a three-song collaborative EP, RR, in late March, and in the video for single “Beso” revealed that they were engaged.

Their chemistry is evident in a viral clip of the duo performing together, but how well do they really know each other? Joining the ranks of Kyle Kuzma and Winnie Harlow, and Emma Chamberlain and Role Model, the pair took GQ’s Couples Quiz. They grilled each other on a number of topics, from Rosalía’s karaoke song of choice (“Gasolina” by Daddy Yankee, though Kate Bush is up there too) to the story behind their first kiss (the day before Christmas Eve 2019 in Madrid) to the “deepest” song that Rauw has written for Rosalía (2021’s “Aquel Nap ZzZz”).

Rosalía opens up about the engagement, explaining that they were in Puerto Rico at Rauw’s grandmother’s home. Standing at the top of the building, they saw fireworks illuminating the horizon of Canóvanas.

“I wasn’t expecting it, and you said, ‘Come, I want to show you a place,’”  she recalled. “And I followed you, thinking nothing of it. I think you got down on one knee. I was nervous as well, so I don’t remember all the details.”

The proposal was not without its hitches, as Alejandro apparently got the ring stuck in his pocket–proving that even celebrity engagements have their share of pitfalls. They also disproved a widely held rumor that the pair got engaged during a summer 2022 vacation in Greece.
