Brady files NFL retirement papers

For someone set to retire after an illustrious 23-year career in the NFL, it’s been a busy four months for Brady. In October 2022, he announced his divorce from Bündchen after 13 years of marriage. Taking to his Instagram Stories, Brady wrote he and Bündchen decided to part ways amicably and after much consideration. Bündchen echoed this in her statement, noting that she and Brady will continue co-parenting their kids.

The announcements were quickly followed by the couple’s home hitting the Davis Island, Florida homes for sale list. And on February 2023, Brady took to Twitter to announce his retirement after 23 seasons in the NFL. The 45-year-old has since filed paperwork with the NFL and the NFLPA (National Football League Players Association), which begins processing Brady’s player benefits and makes him eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame class of 2028.

Brady’s NFL career achievements include the following:

  • Seven-time Super Bowl Champion (three-time Super Bowl runner-up)
  • Five-time Super Bowl MVP
  • Three-time NFL MVP
  • NFL All-Time Passing Yards Leader
  • NFL All-Time Passing Touchdowns Leader
  • NFL All-Time Pass Completions Leader

Brady leaves the game widely considered the greatest of all time.

Brady’s Tampa rental

Brady shocked the football world when he joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020 after 20 years with the New England Patriots. He began his life in Tampa, renting baseball Hall of Famer Derek Jeter’s Davis Islands home. Brady and Bündchen reportedly rented the property nicknamed “St. Jetersburg” for USD$75,000 month.

Jeter’s property was a massive 22-square-foot mansion sitting on 1.25 acres of land. It had seven bedrooms and nine baths, along with all the features you can think of in a luxury waterfront home. This includes the following:

  • Theater
  • Club room with a full-service bar
  • Professional gym
  • 80-foot saltwater lap pool
  • Dock with two boat lifts

The property was the most expensive private home sale ever in Tampa when it sold for $22.5 million in 2021. According to city records, a commercial demolition permit was filed in September 2022.

Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers tenure

Brady signed a two-year USD$50-million contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in March 2020. In February 2021, he led the Bucs to their second Super Bowl championship as a 43-year-old, becoming the oldest quarterback ever to do so. He’s also second on that list, winning it all with the New England Patriots in 2019 at age 41. It was the Bucs’ first Super Bowl win in 18 years.

While Brady struggled with knee issues during his second season in Tampa Bay, he led the team to the Divisional Round, where they lost to eventual Super Bowl champions, Los Angeles Rams. He announced his retirement in February 2022, only to renege and return for his 23rd season in the league. Unfortunately, Brady would experience the first losing season of his career. He announced his retirement for the second time shortly after.

Final Words

Brady’s David Islands pad has been on and off the market during his stint with Tampa Bay. And while it’s back on the rental market, it’s previously been used as a high-end rental, most notably by The Weeknd, when the Grammy award-winning singer was preparing for his Super Bowl LV performance in Tampa.
