The Most Indispensable All-Weather Clothing, Dry Robe

One item of clothing is proving itself indispensable in all temperatures and in any extreme weather event. No summer or winter wardrobe or travel bag should be without a dryrobe®. Rain or shine, fashionable and practical, dryrobe has become the ultimate all-weather clothing. Ideal for a hot beach or in a freezing kitchen, there are many reasons why dryrobe is so hot.

DryRobe

Dry Robe was invented by British surfer, Gideon Bright, and his mother after he got fed up getting cold dressing and undressing in Godrevy car park when he was living in Carbis Bay, near St.Ives in Cornwall. Bright is a former film location manager. Originally for pre- and post- swimming and watersports, the prototype was made from tent material with towel lining. The now highly popular and becoming very trendy garment was refined in a garden shed.

Since 2014, the Dry Robe has been used by Team GB swimmers, divers, and athletes like Alistair and Jonny Brownlee. The design is inspired by parka-Esque jackets worn by Australian surfers. Bright founded the company by selling a property he owned and began to distribute in 2013.  The company is based in Braunton, Devon. Bright describes its scientific raison d’etre: “ At first, it was about solving a problem that is inherent in nearly all outdoor sports activities. Getting out of the wind and rain while changing just makes good sense, and will preserve energy to be used via the chosen activity.”

DryRobe now comes in two styles – Advance Long Sleeve and Short Sleeve- with waterproof and windproof outer shell fabric made from 100% recycled nylon, and synthetic lambswool lining made from 100% recycled polyester. But you don’t have to be a cross-Channel swimmer, a triathlete, kayaker, or cliff diver to get into dryrobe. You don’t even have to get out in the elements. DryRob is now multi-purposed. It doesn’t just afford wind, rain, and modesty protection by the seaside or poolside. It is far more than a wearable sleeping bag for music festivals. It can be put to many inland, indoor use too. It can be used as a dressing-gown, a sofa companion and cuddle blanket, a dignity-preserving hospital, and the ultimate baby accessory. It can be employed as a play or changing mat, post-bath towel, or easy-to-access breastfeeding top.

Its inventor has also heard of it being used for Fancy Dress parties. Apparently, the versatile robe makes for a convincing Grim Reaper, Rasputin, a ghoulish bodybag, and Emperor Palpatine, Darth Sidious, Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic and the First Emperor of the Galactic Empire. But, essentially, the fashion success will always remain a walk-in towel and a portable changing-room that combats goosebumps and wards off the shivers. As well as cutting down on high heating bills, it also saves paying on bathing hut rental fees and the ergonomic challenge of changing in a car.

It avoids all that tripping over and stumbling about and the accidental, embarrassing exhibitionism. You can also get two inside if you buy large. Get toasty for the rest of the summer and through the whole of the winter.  You don’t have to be an Olympian or a holidaymaker to zip up and be cool.
