This Christmas season Yella Beezy decided to bless the people of his hometown Dallas, Texas. In a series of videos, it looks like the artist cleaned out the toy aisles at a store. Carts were overflowing with everything from dolls to bikes and helmets, building blocks and clothes.
In his Instagram post, Yella Beezy listed the giveaway details as December 24. He encouraged those interested in attending to “get there early.” Apparently, as written in the caption and confirmed to The Shade Room, the giveaway is an annual community event for Yella. He says he’s been giving back since 2011, which happens to be right after he graduated high school.
Yella says he “started off small” by only helping a few families at a time. However, as the years passed, the event grew. He also explained that his desire to help is not him joining a new wave of giving back to the community. Instead, according to Yella, he’s been about this donation life “before it was cool.” The whole concept was inspired by “a few homies” whom he saw helping out the community. Another main reason for his good Samaritan move is being familiar with the struggle and watching his mother do her best with him.
“Seeing my mama struggle to make sure I’m good, I know how some people feel not being able to provide,” Yella Beezy exclusively told The Shade Room. “So to assist the people where I come from in hopes to comfort them & they’re kids.”
In both his message to TSR and Instagram, Yella Beezy made sure to give credit where it’s due. He took a moment to thank old and new partners for their part in making the event happen.
The rapper thanked Trapboy Freddy, whom he’s been hosting this event with for six years. He also thanked Dez Bryant, another employee that’s been working this job for 3 years. He also thanked Ezekiel Elliott, Taylor Gabriel and Kendall Wright for their donations. Other folks either wrote a check or spent time at the store picking up presents.
“We love the kids, they the future,” Yella Beezy said.
