Carly Pearce Radiantly Performs ’29’ on ‘The Voice’

Carly Pearce appeared on NBC’s The Voice on Tuesday, December 7 to perform her poignant tune, “29.” The performance opened on Pearce sitting on a leather couch as she sang the first verse, which sets up the story of the bittersweet song. Surrounded by her band and glowing lamps onstage, she continued into the chorus, which details her divorce that occurred during her 29th year.

After the first chorus, Pearce walked to a microphone at the front of the stage and continued telling her vulnerable story while acoustic guitar and fiddle instrumentation backed her up. Dressed in a classic gown, the singer made her way through the song’s bridge, during which she sings that she “barely made her way” through the trying year of 29. She then finished out the tune to roaring applause from the crowd and a standing ovation from The Voice coaches Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Ariana Grande. Pearce shared a clip of the performance on social media, writing that it was a night she’ll “never forget.”

“I wrote this song during a season of my life that felt like the end,” shared Pearce. “Tonight, I saw the redemption & the BEAUTY in the reason I wrote it. Thank you to @nbcthevoice for having me tonight. A night I’ll never forget.”

Pearce also shared a photo from the event, writing, “About last night.”

Pearce debuted “29” upon the release of her 2021 EP of the same name. The tune is also included on her latest full-length studio album, 29: Written In Stone, which was released on September 17.
