Mitchell Tenpenny is officially engaged to his girlfriend and fellow country artist, Meghan Patrick. The “Drunk Me” singer popped the question on Wednesday, November 24, at Losers Bar in Nashville, where the couple first met four years ago. He posted a photo of the moment he got down on one knee, showing the bar decorated with large letters that read “Marry Me,” along with roses and candles on the floor in the shape of a heart.
“I met Meghan here so it was the perfect place — and hey, I got engaged ‘at the end of a bar,” Tenpenny told People of the proposal, referring to his duet, “At the End of a Bar,” with Chris Young.
The Nashville native says he chose Thanksgiving week to ask the big question because Patrick’s family, who hail from Ontario, Canada, would be in town for the celebration. Tenpenny added that he asked Patrick’s father for her hand in marriage during her parents’ last trip to Nashville. Although the way in which Tenpenny proposed was a surprise, Patrick says she had a feeling it was coming soon.
“With my family coming into town this weekend I thought maybe, because we have talked about this for a while,” she says. “But I did not expect this! This is the most perfect engagement I could have ever imagined.”
As for what Tenpenny said to Patrick when he asked her, he says his speech “disappeared” in the excitement of the moment, but Patrick responded with the only answer that matters: “yes.”
“I had a whole speech planned and it disappeared [in the moment],” Tenpenny told People. “I wasn’t able to say everything I wanted to. I was nervous — and relieved. She was crying, I was crying. All I wanted was to hear her say yes!”
Patrick posted to the photos from the engagement on her Instagram profile and shared her reaction to walking into the bar and finding her soon-to-be fiancé down on one knee.
“4 years ago I walked into the back room of @losersoriginal bar, straight out of a tree stand in full camo… that was the first time @m10penny and I ever set eyes on each other, and tonight, in that same bar, I walked in (also wearing camo) and he asked me a question… I’ve known the answer for a long time, and I can’t think of a better place to say yes,” she wrote.
