Carrie Underwood Shares Her Favorite Things About Thanksgiving

As one of country music’s top stars, Carrie Underwood juggles a busy schedule, and with her REFLECTION: The Las Vegas Residency gearing up in December, she’s as busy as ever. However, the Platinum-selling superstar says she and her family still make time to celebrate Thanksgiving when they can, even if they have to work around schedules to make it happen.

“We don’t have too many set-in-stone Thanksgiving traditions,” Underwood says. “I find myself a lot of times working on or around Thanksgiving or unable to get home or whatever. We try to be together, but sometimes that just doesn’t work out.”

Even if her family doesn’t have many annual traditions, she knows one thing that will be part of their holiday celebration: food. As she sings in her humorous new holiday song, “Stretchy Pants,” a delicious dinner is one of her favorite traditions. She says she also enjoys celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving with her husband Mike Fisher and his family.

“I eat a lot every year on Thanksgiving,” she says. “I never skip THAT tradition. But yeah, that’s the gist of it. I’m kind of lucky — I get two Thanksgivings because I also get to celebrate Canadian Thanksgiving with my husband’s family, so if I don’t hit one, I’ll definitely be able to get the other one.”

Last year, Underwood posted a video of her family’s Thanksgiving feast on social media. The dinner of course included a turkey, which Underwood states she did not eat due to following a vegan diet. In the caption of the video, Underwood wrote, “I cooked for 2 days. It was over in 20 minutes!”

Underwood will kick off her Las Vegas Residency at Resorts Wold Theatre less than one week after Thanksgiving on December 1. The residency runs through December 11 and picks up again in March and April. Last week, Underwood shared a photo of herself taking break from rehearsals and planning her Thanksgiving dinner.
