Country Stars React to Their 2022 Grammy Nominations

Imagine how you’d react if one morning, you checked your feed and learned you were nominated for a Grammy. For a handful of lucky country stars, that was the situation today (November 23), so we gathered them in one spot to do some psychological observation.

From Dan + Shay to Mickey Guyton, Walker Hayes, Jason Isbell and more, the whole range of human emotion is on display — or at least, most of the more positive ones. Some seem to still be in shock (looking at you “Fancy Like” team) while others are getting used to this stuff. But no matter what, it’s an interesting look at what it might feel like to have a dream come true.

Here’s how country stars are reacting to their nominations for the upcoming 64th annual Grammy Awards. You can find a full rundown of the country nominees here.

Dan + Shay are up for Duo/Group Country Performance for “Glad You Exist,” and in their thank-you post, they landed on the thoughtful side of the reactionary spectrum.

“We wrote this song as a message of gratitude to everyone in our lives, and it’s only appropriate that this grammy nomination came during thanksgiving week,” the country duo wrote. “Thank you to everyone at the @RecordingAcad for including us in this category for the 4th year in a row.”

Mickey Guyton, on the other hand, was more to the point in acknowledging her three Grammy nods. She’s tied for the lead among country artists.

Walker Hayes scored his first ever Grammy recognition, appearing in the Best Country Song category along with his “Fancy Like” co-writers. After a minute, he got all the feels. How many times can one guy say “A freaking Grammy nomination”?

Ryan Hurd was in more of a declaratory mood, reacting to his nod for Best Duo/Group Performance with wife Maren Morris for “Chasing After You.”

And multi-Grammy winner Jason Isbell didn’t even flinch.

Elle King made sure to thank her singing partner for the love.

And finally, Jack Ingram went with the classic, classy approach. He’s up for Best Country Album with Miranda Lambert and Jon Randall for The Marfa Tapes.
