Rising star Parker McCollum shows off his box-office-busting performance chops in the new live video for “Falling Apart.” Filmed at his July 31, 2021, concert at the Dos Equis Pavilion in Dallas, Texas, it helps show the newcomer’s unique spot in the country landscape — as both a fresh face and proven favorite.
For a little background, McCollum only arrived in Nashville for a major-label deal in 2019, but he already had a massive fan base well before that. Built in the Texas tradition of non-stop touring and thrilling stage shows — which were usually packed full of self-written country-rock anthems — that base has only grown after his first Number One at country radio. With the Platinum certified “Pretty Heart” and then his Gold Chain Cowboy album, he’s been stringing sell-out shows together all across the country — including the one in the video, which he played to 20,000 fans.
“Touring for Gold Chain Cowboy has been the highlight of my year,” says McCollum. “Being able to see the fans has been amazing and to know that so many of my shows have been sold out is incredible. All I’ve ever wanted to do is play music and I wanted this video to show the energy at my shows and what you get when you come out to see me play. I love seeing my fans out on the road!”
“Falling Apart” features another dose of McCollum’s signature outside-the-box heartbreak. When many of his mainstream peers are experimenting with synthetic beats, bass drops and hip-hop lyrics, McCollum keeps it country by singing of love lost over a crunchy backdrop of electric guitars and pounding drums — but he does it his own way, often casting himself as an repentant romantic villain.
“Maybe you are better with someone else / Maybe I just saved you from myself / When I left you in the dark / Girl, I knew you’d never call my bluff / The writing on the wall just wasn’t enough / You were falling in love and I was falling apart,” goes the hammer-down heartbreaker.
Meanwhile, Parker McCollum is still raking up career firsts, including his late night television performance debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on November 23. His current single, “To Be Loved by You,” flashes more of that against-the-grain style and is inside the Top 20 at country radio, and his tour will continue well into 2022.
