The relationship between pop singer Zayn Malik, 28, and model Gigi Hadid, 26, which persisted for six years and produced a daughter, Khai, has reportedly come to an end in troubling fashion. Per People, Malik pleaded “no contest” to harassment charges against both Gigi and her mother, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Yolanda Hadid, 57.
A People report said that the tension between Malik and Yolanda stemmed from her belief that the former One Direction singer “could treat Gigi better,” per a source. According to court documents looked over by Vulture, the serious altercation took place on September 29, when Yolanda came to Malik and Gigi’s Pennsylvania home when the latter was not around. Yolanda claims Malik was screaming, cursing and even shoving her, as well as attempting to “physically engage” her security guard.
“The defendant, Zayn Malik, with the intent to harass, annoy, or alarm another, namely, Yolanda Hadid, grabbed and shoved her into a dress causing mental anguish and physical pain,” the documentation read.
He’s also accused of harassing Gigi in the aftermath of the incident, reportedly calling her and saying she should “strap on some fucking balls and defend your partner against your fucking mother in my house.”
Malik was sentenced to 90 days probation for each of the four harassment counts, and needs to complete anger management counseling. He also cannot be in contact with Yolanda.
Malik provided a statement to TMZ on October 28 in which he refuted the allegations. “I adamantly deny striking Yolanda Hadid and for the sake of my daughter I decline to give any further details and I hope that Yolanda will reconsider her false allegations and move towards healing these family issues in private,” he said.
He further elaborated on his thoughts in a Twitter post, writing that the reason he didn’t contest the claims against him was to protect the “safe and private space for [his] daughter to grow up in.” He also wrote that he wishes “private family matters aren’t thrown on the world stage for all to poke and pick apart,” but stopped short of explicitly denying the allegations in this comment.
Gigi Hadid also released a short statement through People on October 28. “Gigi is solely focused on the best for Khai. She asks for privacy during this time,” a representative told the magazine.

According to sources in People, the pair are no longer dating, but will “co-parent” Khai, who is 13 months old. TMZ further reported that they’ve actually not been together for roughly a month. Malik and Hadid were first romantically connected in late 2015, per Elle, breaking up and reconciling several times over the ensuing few years.
