You might be able to knock Zac Brown Band down, but you can’t keep them down, and in the new video for “The Comeback,” the band rises up bigger and more joyful than ever.
The title track to their just-released studio album, “The Comeback” is a direct response to what fans (and the band themselves) have faced through the COVID-19 pandemic. But instead of focusing on the tragedy, this anthem proclaims “The only good thing about getting knocked down / Is the comeback when it comes back around.”
A new video released alongside the album brings that message of resilience and positivity to life, showcasing the hard working frontline healthcare workers and first responders who’ve continued to put others first for more than a year. Backed by an uplifting heartland rock sound, it also features ZBB making a triumphant return to Boston’s Fenway Park in August, as Brown reminds listeners that hard times don’t last forever, and the music will play on.
“It might feel like lady liberty’s down on her luck / But when you hit rock bottom the only way is up,” goes the song.
Zac Brown Band released The Comeback on October 15, marking a true return after the band was one of the first to stop touring in early 2020 — even though it meant Brown had to lay off crew members. After pleading with fans to take the situation seriously so life could get back to normal, he says the band “went hard and wrote for the last year and a half, and then produced the best body of work that we’ve done so far,” and sees it as his job to offer fans a reason to hope.
“What I realized is it’s my responsibility to create some medicine for people and what they go through,” Brown says of the album’s genesis.
Putting his words into action, Zac Brown Band is currently back on tour after having to once again postpone shows last month — this time after Brown contracted COVID-19 — and they have also released the unity-building feel-good anthem “Same Boat.”
