Jake Owen Aims for an Uncharted Buzz With ‘Drunk On a Boat’

Jake Owen pops the top on an end-of-summer jam with the new “Drunk On a Boat,” offering up a feel-good reminder than happiness is in the eye of the beer-holder.

Written by Rodney Clawson, Jake Mitchell and David Lee Murphy, the track finds Owen waving goodbye to the mainland and sailing off into an uncharted buzz, with a swell of good vibes and singalong chorus. Meanwhile, its sunshine-country sound features woozy guitar riffs and a steady sway, which feels just like a boat bobbing in the waves. The Florida native says he fell in love with the tune right away.

“When I heard this song for the first time, I knew it was right on-brand for me,” Owen explains. “I wanted to release ’Drunk On A Boat’ as the sun sets on the season and give everyone a feel-good summer memory as we head into fall.”

“Drunk on a boat, out on the water / Find a good spot, pull the anchor out and drop her / On down to the bottom, catch a buzz on a beer / Smoke ‘em if you got ‘em till the sun disappears / Drunk on a boat, forget about the rest / All we gotta worry ’bout’s an empty ice chest / You grab a life jacket, jump in and float / Or sit right there and get drunk on a boat / Drunk on a boat,” goes the catchy chorus.

“Drunk On a Boat” is out now and follows current single from Jake Owen, “Best Thing Since Backroads,” which is nearing the Top 20 at Country radio. That windows-down anthem arrived earlier this year and marked the beginning of a new recording cycle for Owen, after scoring three Number Ones off his previous album — “I Was Jack (You Were Diane),” “Homemade,” “Made for You.” With his career still going strong, Owen also just crossed one Billion on-demand streams in August.
