Jameson Rodgers ‘Speeds’ To No.1 With ‘Cold Beer Calling My Name’

Country newcomer Jameson Rodgers has the Number One song in the land this week, topping radio charts with his buddy Luke Combs and their refreshing “Cold Beer Calling My Name.” It’s the Mississippi native’s second Number One after 2019’s “Some Girls,” but apparently, Rodgers is still getting used to success.

Chatting with Audacy’s Rob + Holly, the rising star explained that early on, he got busted for speeding after hearing some good news.

“You dream of getting the news that you’ll have a single one day … and when [friend and country star] HARDY called me and said one of our songs was going to be a single, I literally got a speeding ticket two minutes after I hung up the phone,” he said with a laugh, adding “at least I’ll be able to pay for it now, it’s fine.”

But if that’s what happened after just dropping a single, who knows what kind of trouble came from “Cold Beer Calling My Name.” Already a chart-topping co-writer of tunes by other artists — like Luke Bryan’s “Born Here Live Here Die Here” and Florida Georgia Line’s “Talk You Out of It,” “Cold Beer Calling My Name” marks his first co-written Number One as an artist. He penned the frosty anthem with Brett Tyler, Alysa Vanderheym and Hunter Phelps, and now, Rodgers says it’s getting harder to give his songs away.

“Now that I’m having a little bit of success as an artist, it is tough to give songs away,” he explains. “Most of the songs I’ve had recorded [by other artists] were written before I had a record deal. You’re sitting around the house, it’s not like you’re counting your money at the bank and Luke Bryan asks for a song, it’s not like, ‘Nah, I’m going to hold this song for myself for four years from now then I have a record deal, maybe.’ Back then it was an easy decision letting artists like that have songs. Now, it’s tougher just because I’m so busy, I don’t get to write as much. Good songs are hard to come by now.”

Sounds like a good problem to have, and Jameson Rodgers has plenty more to celebrate. Along with the Number One, he just got married (telling Audacy he keeps catching himself playing with his ring), and “Cold Beer Calling My Name” is part of the just released debut album, Bet You’re From A Small Town. Meanwhile, he’s currently on the road to headline his Cold Beer Calling My Name Tour — and hopefully following the speed limit.
