Nicky James Releases Electric Breakup Tune, ‘Goin’ Through’

Nicky James is lamenting a recent heartbreak in his new single, “Goin’ Through,” premiering on Sounds Like Nashville today (Sept. 30). In the uptempo track co-written by Chris Young and Matt Rogers, James attempts to soothe his broken heart by looking to other avenues, such as “going through” a bottle of whiskey and looking for someone new.

“I’ve been goin’ through whiskey like water / Goin’ through the ups and the downs of goodbye / Goin’ through my phone looking for a number / Someone who can tell me the best way I can somehow get over you / That’s what I’m goin’ through,” sings James in the chorus.

In the second verse, James sings of driving past his ex-love’s home and being tempted to knock on her door and make amends. However, he simply drives away, continuing to rely on his other vices to get him through. Although the song’s lyrics tell a sorrowful story, the production is upbeat, with driving guitar parts and strong percussion produced by Eric Torres.

“Getting new music out is always exciting for me,” James told Sounds Like Nashville of the release. “No matter how big or small the reaction is I make it a point to crack a cold one and reflect on all the work that went into it. Thank you to Matt Rogers, Chris Young, and Eric Torres for bringing ‘Goin’ Through’ to life and giving me the chance to put it out to the world.” The tune follows previous releases from James, including 2021’s “Common Ground,” “Addict’s Knot,” and “Your Name On It.” Pre-save and stream “Goin’ Through” here.
