Carter Faith on Success of Debut EP: ‘It Truly Feels Like a Dream’

Carter Faith has been turning heads in country music over the past year. Lauded as the “future of the next 10 years of Nashville” by Apple Music host Ward Guenther, the rising singer/songwriter is making a name for herself in country music with her fresh country-pop sound that’s rooted in honest lyricism.

Hailing from Davidson, North Carolina, Faith ignited her musical journey by teaching herself guitar and piano, before marrying her thoughts and songs through the art of songwriting. All this is displayed on her debut EP, Let Love Be Love, which dropped last month via Altadena and Pound It Out Loud.

Co-written by Faith, the six-track sampler flawlessly captures her country-pop artistry and sonically melds the sounds of her biggest musical influences, which include Kacey Musgraves, Lana Del Rey, Fleetwood Mac, Eric Church and The Eagles. Throughout the introductory set,  Faith showcases authenticity, vulnerability, and her flair to dig into the recesses of her heart to tell stories she’s proud of. There are ebullient, up-tempo songs (“I Just Wanna Dance,” “Buzzkilla”), but there are also ones that capture Faith’s romantic emotions and knack for heartfelt songwriting (“Cowboys & Dreamers,” “Joyride”).

To date, Faith’s music has earned numerous features on notable playlists, which include Apple Music’s Today’s Country and Country Risers, and Spotify’s New Boots, Wild Country and Next from Nash. Superstars such as Lady A’s Charles Kelley, Mickey Guyton and Carly Pearce have also offered high praise for the newcomer’s releases.

Reflecting on her booming success, Faith says, “I couldn’t have ever dreamed that people would gravitate toward this project like they have. It’s truly felt like a dream.”

“I always joke that I typically write sad songs but each one of these songs just went so well together and all had the same emotion tied to them – pure happiness,” the 21-year-old tell Sounds Like Nashville. “I’m still trying to catch my breath from the excitement and support that I’ve gotten from some of my favorite artists.”

Having shared the stage with country stars such as Chris Young, Old Dominion and Cole Swindell, and most recently made her performance debut at the legendary Ryman Auditorium, Faith has been creating a buzz in Music City and beyond.

Last week, Faith also premiered the wanderlust music video for the EP’s single and her most-streamed single to date, “Joyride.” Directed by Running Bear and filmed in Nashville, Tennessee, the picturesque visual bolsters the song’s emotionally palpable delivery.

“Take this fast car nowhere slow / ‘Cause, baby, you’re my open road / It don’t matter where we’ve been It don’t matter where we go / ‘Cause lovin’ you’s a joyride for the soul,” Faith sings buoyantly over a dreamy melody.

“Making the ‘Joyride’ video was such an incredible experience. I literally got to just dance around to my song and be a part of putting my vision for the song on film,” Faith says. “I always have a visual aspect or idea of what I’d like to portray in my head before we even begin conversations about the music video direction but once the Running Bear team was brought in – they helped bring everything to life.”

She adds, “Making a music video is always one of my favorite things about the music process because a visual element truly completes things for me.”
