Say hello to summer with the new and very gorgeous Rae Feather x Tara Matthews swimwear collection.
Tell us about your brand?
I launched Rae Feather around 7 years ago. I always felt I had strong creative qualities which I’d never exercised. I loved to travel, I loved resort wear and there was a void in the market for resort wear that was made from natural fabrics and was affordable. I struggled to find comfortable pieces that would breathe, not stick, look chic, and not cost a small fortune. Whilst shooting a campaign, we included the monogram basket which had been the brainchild of a supplier of mine in Portugal. I posted the image on Instagram and it caused such a stir. The brand took on a whole new meaning and we became the ‘it’ beach accessory brand.
How would you sum up the label?
When I first launched Rae Feather, the aim was never to create a “fashion brand” but a” lifestyle” brand, a brand creating pieces that are “keepers”, pieces that have staying power both aesthetically and quality-wise. Items that look stylish, are affordable, and work hard for us. Our collections are made up of separates that can be mixed and matched and will see you through the summer and winter. The aim is always to keep the lines as timeless and as seasonless as possible. The word “classic” can often create connotations of safe and quiet; however, classic means timeless. Pieces that can be worn repeatedly, year after year, and they are still relevant and stylish.
Let us in on the collaboration line with Tara Matthews, and how it came about?
As we have grown and evolved, adding swim to our collections felt like a natural step and I have always loved and worn Tara’s collections. She has a real understanding of the female form. Tara designs for real women and her pieces strike the balance between design and functionality every time.
Which is your favorite piece from the collection and why?
All of our swimwear is reversible with an incredible fit but my favorite style is probably the Emily bikini which can be worn multiple ways. The top can be worn with a tie at the front or back and the bottoms can be styled high for more support or folded and worn low for less coverage – essentially 4 styles in 1!
