Lady A Cancels Festival Appearance After Charles Kelley Undergoes Emergency Appendectomy

Just as live music events are finally returning to stages across the country, Lady A had the unfortunate bout of bad timing that caused them to cancel their first show back due to a medical emergency.

Singer and guitarist Charles Kelley had to undergo emergency surgery just hours before the band’s first scheduled show in more than 16 months in order to remove his appendix after suffering from appendicitis.

The country singer gave his fans an update about his health on Instagram, sharing a candid selfie from his hospital bed to let everyone know he is doing just fine after having to rush to the emergency room.

“Hey guys – sitting here in the hospital and so bummed to have missed performing our first show back in Minnesota, not to mention in 16 months – that’s an understatement. But the ol’ appendix had other plans. didn’t even know what an appendix was until friday when it sent me to the ER. Love y’all and be back soon enough,” Kelley captioned the Sunday post (July 11).

Lady A posted about the cancelation of their first post-pandemic appearance on Twitter, promising fans they would be back in action the minute Kelley was fully cleared by medical professionals.

“This morning Charles is in good hands and we’re continuing to pray for his recovery. The minute he is cleared by his doctors, we will be back on the road to see y’all. We appreciate your understanding,” bandmembers Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood wrote in a Twitter note to fans on Saturday morning (July 10).

The country trio was scheduled to headline the Lakefront Music Fest in Minnesota.

Fans don’t have to worry too much though, as Lady A had plans to be out on the road throughout the summer and into the early fall for their What A Song Can Do Tour. According to their official website, the band is expected to play at the iconic Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth, Texas, on July 16 for a two night run.

In the meantime, you can check out Lady A’s latest collection of songs, “What a Song Can Do (Chapter One),” now.
