Big Latto Steps Out To The Airport In Her Bonnet Amid Cultural Conversations About It

Whew! The cultural conversation about wearing bonnets in public has been ongoing for a hot minute! Some argue that bonnets shouldn’t be rocked outside the home, while others argue that those who aren’t wearing it should mind their business. And some people are stuck on that “in certain spaces” line where they might see sense in wearing it to the airport, but not at the grocery store or an elementary school for example. Well, it seems like Big Latto recently took a flight and, despite the criticism, she proudly rocked a bonnet at the airport.

Latto, dressed in what appeared to be a red shirt, took to Instagram to let us know she will be comfortable regardless! In a fuchsia bonnet and black face mask, Latto addressed any possible concerns or commentary about her chosen look.

“PSA I’m in the airport with my bonnet on and who gon check me,” Latto said in an Instagram Story video.

She ends the short clip with a laugh, which could indicate she’s joking about the situation. Nonetheless, some celebrities have been “checking” others for publicly representing themselves in that manner. Celebrities, like Mo’Nique, have fueled the talks on social media. As you may recall, she took to Instagram a few weeks back to call out the practice. At the time, she was admittedly taking a trip of her own and saw “too many” Black women wearing “head bonnets, scarves, slippers, pajamas, blankets.”

“I’m not saying you don’t have pride but the representation you’re showing, someone would have to ask you to know that you had it,” Mo’Nique said in response to what she saw.

She followed up her initial video with a clarification saying legends like Patti LaBelle and Margaret Avery addressed her for similar behavior.

“Had I taken a different attitude, I could have felt like they were rubbing me wrong,” Mo’Nique shared. “But I’m glad I took the attitude of appreciation and gratitude because they tapped me.”
