Master P is the master—no pun intended—of having his hand in everything. The New Orleans legend is a rapper, business mogul, and father who dominates anything he touches, and it seems like he’s always looking to add more to his plate. Although P has done many things, it seems like he can’t shake his love for basketball. He played with The Charlotte Hornets and Toronto Raptors back in the late 90s, and he’s looking to get back on the court in a slightly different way.
Master P is eyeing the head or assistant coach spot for the New Orleans Pelicans, according to TMZ. The time comes just as the Pelicans released their former coach, Stan Van Gundy, after one season. “I think it’s time,” P explained. “They gotta do something different, unique.” P isn’t a stranger to coaching. He previously coached San Antonio Spurs baller DeMar DeRozan while he was playing at the AAU level.
“I played in the NBA. I coached a lot of great players in the league,” P said. “I took my sons from being high school athletes to maybe they’ll be the next future big-time pro athletes.” P, as a potential new coach, could impact NBA baller Zion Williamson positively.
There has been a lot of controversy surrounding Zion, and Master P feels like his involvement as a coach will certainly make everyone happy—including Zion. According to SB Nation, Zion’s family expressed frustration with Stan’s demanding coaching style, disappointment that the team traded J.J. Redick in the mid-season, and the uncertainty if restricted free agents Lonzo Ball and Josh Hart will return to the team.
We’ll keep our eyes peeled to see if P gets that coaching spot!
