Trae Tha Truth Honored With The Change Maker Award At The 2021 Billboard Music Awards (Video)

H-town stand up! Rapper, philanthropist, and activist Trae Tha Truth stays on the frontline in his community by providing resources to those in need. Time after time, he goes above and beyond to serve the Houston community, whether during the holiday season giving back through his team, the Relief Gang. Or through his “Angel By Nature” organization, Trae is living up to his name!

Tonight he was the second honoree to accept the Change Maker Award at the Billboard Music Awards, and with the work he does, no one is more deserving of the honor. Tina Lawson, Beyoncé’s mother, introduced Trae and called him superman. “Trae Tha Truth is a legend in Houston, with a heart as big as Texas. He’s a talented rapper, a voice for social change, and a true humanitarian, whose work touches cities across the country,” said Tina. “His name is so fitting because Trae really is the truth.”

Trae approached the stage looking sharp in a navy suit and gave a moving speech. “Coming from where I come from, nothing was ever promised,” Trae shared. “I always said, if I ever got in a position, I’d be there for those in need, whether it be assisting the little homies in music, whether it be assisting people in need of relief, or just fighting on the front line for those who can’t fight for thyself.”

He dedicated the award to multiple of his close friends, including fallen rappers Nipsey Hussle, DMX, and Lyric Chanel, who he considers his niece. If you recall, Trae was very close to the teen who passed away in March due to brain cancer. He released a music video, “Lyric Forever,” in her honor.

Congrats again, Trae!
