UK-based duo The Shires and Jimmie Allen released a heartwarming music video for their new collaboration, “On The Day I Die.” In the song, Allen and The Shires’ Crissie Rhodes and Ben Earle sing about living life to the fullest as they urge their loved ones to not be sad on the day they die. The music video, released on Friday, April 30, follows this theme, as it shows the love story of a couple from when they were children playing together to being adults in a relationship. These scenes are interspersed with clips of The Shires and Allen singing the uplifting song in a church.
“Ironically, ‘On the Day Die’ is a song that is celebrating life,” say Ben Earle and Crissie Rhodes. “We’ve had a lot of time recently to look around and appreciate the small, everyday things in our lives. It feels like the most perfect time to release this song, and we are so excited to have Country star Jimmie Allen featuring. The message of the song really resonated with him and his incredible vocals took a song we already loved to a whole new level.”
“On The Day I Die” was written by Earle along with Peter Hammerton, and Fiona Bevan, and the original version, which does not feature Allen, appears on their Good Years album. The new version with Allen was also officially released on Friday.
“So glad this song is finally out,” Allen wrote on Twitter. “I loved it the first time I heard it. Thanks for letting me be a part of it.”
The song isn’t the first one The Shires have reimagined from their Good Years album. In October, they released a new version of their song “Lightning Strikes,” featuring Lauren Alaina. Previous albums from the group include Accidentally On Purpose (2018) and My Universe (2016).
