DMX’s family shut down floating rumors regarding the late rapper’s masters, finances and merchandise, according to TMZ.
The family addressed a now viral rumor that claimed Jay-Z and Beyoncé allegedly planned to purchase and regift DMX’s masters to his children.
The masters rumor was shared by multiple Twitter accounts including Phenomenal Reporters (@phenoreporters).
“Jay Z is doing another legendary act for the culture of hip hop,” the tweet states. “Jay Z and Beyonce are buying back DMX’s masters for $10,000,000.00 and will give to his 17 kids for free.”
According to DMX’s family, this masters rumor has no merit and his masters “aren’t in play” with the music and business moguls. Although, Def Jam has some masters under control, DMX’s masters are not owned directly by Jay-Z, TMZ reported.
The family also wants “fans to be wary” about scammers soliciting money for funeral expenses and others selling DMX merchandise. At this time, DMX’s family is not raising capital or selling merchandise.
On April 9th, 2021, we unfortunately reported the passing of Earl ‘DMX’ Simmons. He was 50 years old at the time. DMX reportedly experienced a drug overdose at his home one week prior to his passing. The overdose triggered a heart attack that led to the legend’s hospitalization at White Plains Hospital in New York. After a week of monitoring, tests and life support, doctors could no longer determine any brain activity.
His family released a statement to XXL confirming DMX’s passing and offering additional details.
“Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end,” the statement said. “He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live forever.”
The statement closed with a word of appreciation for the “love and support” during an “incredibly difficult time.”
“Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle, and the man the word knew as DMX,” the statement continued. “We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.”
Roommates, we continue to keep his family and friends in our prayers.
