Roommates, it’s been almost six months since iconic “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek passed away at the age of 80 following a long battle with cancer—and during that time the search for his replacement has taken over social media. In the latest development, legendary “Reading Rainbow” host and “Roots” star LeVar Burton recently shared the very popular petition to have him crowned as the permanent host of “Jeopardy!”
In the months following Alex Trebek’s death there has been a revolving door of hosts who have attempted to step into his shoes—but there is one name that has been at the top of the list for “Jeopardy!” fans as the perfect permanent host.
Enter LeVar Burton, who has previously won “Celebrity Jeopardy!,” who is not only a fan-favorite, but fellow celebrities have also given him the stamp of approval, including legendary actor Dick Van Dyke and late-night host Stephen Colbert. As he shared the petition to his Twitter account, he wrote “Leaving this here in the event that the powers that be are listening.”
The petition, which has racked up more than 160,000 signatures so far, reads:
“Between hosting 21 seasons of the educational Reading Rainbow, playing the brainiac engineer Geordi La Forge on Star Trek: the Next Generation, and filling the roll of Kunta Kinte in the ever important mini-series Roots, LeVar Burton has inspired and shaped the minds of several generations of trivia-loving nerds.”
As of now, no decision has been made about who will take over as the permanent host of “Jeopardy!”
