Chrissy Metz Encourages People To Follow Their Passion In ‘Girl Go’

Chrissy Metz released a new song, “Girl Go,” on April 2, which encourages listeners to chase their dreams and “go.” In the freewheeling tune, backed by driving guitar and piano elements, the singer and This Is Us actress tells the story of a young woman who wants to find success in life, but just needs someone to encourage her. Metz even mentions her own personal experience working at McDonald’s when she was young, singing, “Remember when you had to say, ‘Do you want fries with that?’ You thought you’d never get the chance to find a bigger dot on the map.” Metz then acts as that encouragement in the chorus, urging all the dreamers to go find their path.

“Girl go / Dream on down that road / Roll down that window / And let that freedom in / Let your hand dance in the wind,” she sings in the chorus.

The song was written by Metz along with Dan Fernandez, Faren Rachels and Lainey Wilson, and the singer says the track was inspired by her own journey chasing her dream out to Hollywood.

“‘Girl Go’ was inspired by the beginning of my journey from Gainesville, Fla. to Los Angeles and just needing somebody to believe in me and to say ‘go – go and do it, be bold, be brave, be courageous,’” Metz says.  “I remember being that bright-eyed, very eager, excited girl to pursue her dreams and this really encapsulates that moment.”

Metz followed her path out to Los Angeles and is now an award-winning actress playing the role of Kate Pearson in the NBC drama, This Is Us, alongside Mandy Moore, Milo Ventimiglia, Sterling K. Brown, Justin Hartley and more. Metz is also following her passion for music, which she calls her “first love,” and signed her major label record deal with Universal Music Group Nashville in 2020. Other tracks she has released include “Talking To God,” “Actress,” and “Feel Good.”
