Akon Reportedly Secures Land In Uganda To Build Second Futuristic City

A global pandemic hasn’t stopped Akon from making money moves back on the Motherland. On Monday, the artist secured land in a second African country to build a futuristic city, according to reports by Revolt. The new plot of land was granted by the Ugandan government and measures one square mile in size. There are still no details on what the city will cost to build or what amenities will be included, but it’s expected to be finished by the year 2036.

Roomies, the artist-turned-businessman isn’t passing up the opportunity to collect his coins, literally. He plans to operate the future city with his currency AKoin.

When Uganda’s NBS Television asked Akon if the average Ugandan would be able to afford the city’s amenities, Akon responded by urging the public to have belief in themselves.

“I know if I put it there, they’re going to find a way to afford it because it’s going to motivate them,” Akon said. “But ultimately when you create an opportunity, people grow with that opportunity, people learn with that opportunity, people are motivated with that opportunity.”

As you may remember, Akon shared news in January 2020 that he struck a deal with his native country Senegal to build Akon City on their land. He posted himself holding the signed agreement on his Instagram account. The post’s caption said “Just finalized the agreement for AKON CITY in Senegal. Looking forward to hosting you there in the future.”

The Senegalese ‘Akon City’ costs approximately $6 billion to construct and will also use AKoin to fund its economy. Complex reported that the city will feature a Hamptons Hospital campus, Hamptons Mall, a school, police department, waste management services, parks, stadiums, and other recreational facilities.

Construction on the original ‘Akon City’ is set to start this year and be completed in three years, according to Complex.
